2381 new interim consultants
We have previously written about how the fall is a period when many clients hire interim consultants for extensive change projects. It is also a time when the candidate market is growing. During the summer, 2381 new and established interim consultants have registered with us - either via a new unsolicited application, an application for an advertised service or to update its availability as an existing consultant. We had a chat with four of them, who tell us what they can contribute as an interim manager in a new organization.

The most enjoyable assignments involve both strategic and operational work. It's exciting to challenge existing structures and ways of working to break new, commercial ground.

I have a degree in economics and a background as an authorized public accountant, but in recent years I have mainly worked as a CFO in medium-sized companies and start-ups. For example, I have built up finance functions, project managed system changes and further developed budgeting and follow-up processes.
What is an ideal mission for you?
An ideal assignment for me is with a company that is facing or undergoing change, or a fast-growing company where I can contribute with new perspectives and my experience from strategy work, to streamline processes and system support. In an ideal assignment, I work closely with the CEO and management team and am the confident leader of the finance team during the change journey.
What can you contribute as an interim manager in a new organization?
As an interim manager, I come in with a great deal of commitment and a desire to really make a difference for the customer during my assignment. I like to work close to the business and usually quickly become an appreciated sounding board for the CEO and management team in various strategic issues and in budget and analysis issues. In addition to the strategic work, I also have a broad experience of working operationally ”hands-on” both in controlling and accounting and can support where needed. I can also contribute to building strong and secure teams even during major change journeys.
Cecilia, Interim HR Manager
Describe your interim career.
After many years as an employee in industry and academia, of which almost twenty years as a manager, I chose to let go of the security that a permanent position provides and instead feel the freedom as an interim consultant. I now take on assignments as an interim HR manager in addition to working with leadership and organizational development. As an interim HR manager, I have thrived in the international groups I have worked in.
What is an ideal mission for you?
The industry doesn't really matter, as long as it's an HR role I'm going into. Assignments can be shorter or longer - my shortest has been two months, which worked out great.
What can you contribute as an interim manager in a new organization?
I tend to be able to build trusting relationships quite quickly, both with managers and employees. I also feel that I have the ability to quickly form a good idea of what the organization needs from the role I have stepped into and that I get a lot done, including handling and closing things that have previously been left in the organization. Knowing that the assignment is limited in time gives me an extra focus and a clear deadline.
