Interim Head of the Project Office and Mechanical Engineering
Interim Search has been entrusted with filling the position of Interim Manager of the Project Office and Mechanical Engineering. For one of our clients in the manufacturing industry, we are now seeking an experienced and confident interim manager for a full-time assignment. The assignment begins on September 1 and involves leading the operations while the recruitment of a permanent manager is underway. In this role, you will be responsible for creating stability, ensuring continuity, and driving the business forward. You will lead an organization of approximately 15 employees divided between a project office with five project managers specializing in machinery investments and a mechanical engineering department with ten employees specializing in electrical engineering, mechanics, automation, and design.
Main duties:
- Lead, coach, and develop an organization of approximately 15 employees, and ensure clear and hands-on operational leadership.
- Plan, prioritize, and monitor operations to ensure efficient use of resources and high delivery capacity.
- Ensure that the project office’s investment projects are carried out according to plan and that the project portfolio is monitored and prioritized based on the organization’s needs.
- Be responsible for ensuring that the mechanical engineering department provides effective support to production in the areas of electrical engineering, mechanics, automation, and design.
- Ensure compliance with work procedures, internal processes, legal requirements, and other governing guidelines.
- Be responsible for the department's budget, operational planning, and the ongoing development of processes and work methods.
- Ensure that job descriptions and other governing documents are kept up to date.
- Manage and be responsible for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) matters in accordance with applicable delegations of authority and the company’s management system.
- Conduct a structured handover together with the current manager and collaborate with the various stakeholders in the organization to ensure a smooth transition.
To be eligible for the role:
- At least five years of experience as a manager in the manufacturing industry, with responsibility for personnel, the budget, and operations.
- Experience in operational leadership within a production-oriented organization.
- Proficiency in handling personnel matters, labor law issues, union cooperation, and dialogue with HR.
- Experience with budget responsibility and working within established financial frameworks and decision-making authority.
- A solid understanding of project management. Experience leading or managing a project portfolio is a plus.
- The ability to establish structure, set the right priorities, and at the same time drive the business forward with a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach.
About the process
The assignment begins on September 1 and is expected to last until December 31. Candidates will be presented to the client on an ongoing basis.
