After laying the foundations as a chartered accountant, Mathias decided to start his own consulting company where he was responsible for the finances of a number of entrepreneurial companies. He was recruited after three years to the role of CFO of an international software company and was part of the management team, reporting to the head office in Italy. Responsibilities included the finance function, IT, logistics and inventory management. He decided to return to consulting and was hired by a distribution company as interim CFO, responsible for seven people, five companies and a turnover of billions of euros. This track record opened up a range of opportunities and he was hired by an international insurance company, a fast-growing household products manufacturing company and an IT infrastructure provider.
