Top of the wish list: sustainability manager

2024-06-19

Sustainability managers are highly sought after in the interim market. They are also among the most self-sufficient candidates, as clients often let them start their assignments with a blank slate. We spoke with one of our experienced sustainability managers, Nina Björstrand, who has been in high demand over the past year.

Nina has been working with sustainability for 20 years, but never before has she been so inundated with requests as she has been over the past year.

”I receive a lot of inquiries. Legal requirements are increasing and there are greater expectations on companies today. Companies, in turn, need a sustainability manager to figure out how to meet these expectations and drive the work forward.”

Today's companies both want and need to embark on a sustainability journey in order to meet current legal requirements. It is common for clients ordering interim services to be unclear about the job description when they hire their consultant, but this is particularly evident with sustainability managers.

”I am used to customers turning to an interim solution to quickly bring in a sustainability manager, as they want to get started right away. What the work will entail is very much up to us—CEOs and boards of large companies know that they need to ramp up their sustainability efforts significantly, but rarely know how to go about it. Many boards set the goal of becoming leaders in sustainability, but need a lot of help formulating how they will get there.”

Nina's completed checklist at our latest customer:

  • Market analysis: what do our customers want and what are our competitors doing?
  • Increase sustainability expertise within the organization
  • Ensure that all suppliers sign the Code of Conduct
  • Review climate footprint in relation to purchasing
  • Centralize sustainability work within the international group structure
